Air Canada and Terracap

Edmonton —Work is well underway on a new 50,000 sq. ft. (4,645 square metre) maintenance facility at the Edmonton International Airport. Flanked by the structure’s steel skeleton, Air Canada and developer Terracap Group held an official groundbreaking at the site Oct. 25. The airline did not release any details about the cost of the building, but said its 15-year lease will set it back $19 million. Terracap is responsible for construction and will take on Air Canada as a tenant.

The new building will serve as a maintenance and storage space for the airline’s Ground Support Equipment team, as well as its cargo division. The two units will occupy 60 and 40 per cent of the space, respectively. The company said the site will include five vehicle maintenance bays, as well as welding and machining stations.

With work progressing, the facility is expected to open in September of 2019.
